Lions Legacy Lives On
04 Jul 2009 -
In the build up to the final Test in Johannesburg, Gullivers' Lions supporters were invited by the President of SARU, Oregan Hoskins to Soweto Rugby Club for a unique festival rugby.
The morning began with local school children being treated to a TAG tournament and coaching clinic from South African rugby legends Peter Muller and John Allen. Then it was the turn of the Gullivers Barbarians to take on Soweto Legends, with the Barbarians winning 25-5.
Off the pitch, cultural groups enjoyed performing their traditional Soweto musical and dancing acts. And brunch was served in the form of a traditional 'Spit Braai'.
In conjunction with our South African partner Edusport Travel, Gullivers contributed towards the new changing facilities at Soweto Rugby Club and donated masses of kit to the club. Gullivers' managing director, John Davison said: "There was a great atmosphere at Soweto RFC and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to see a local rugby club and be part of the legacy we have left behind."
