05 Jan 2010 - Gullivers' oldest employee Nick Nixon has retired today on his 80th birthday.

Nick has been Gullivers' head of maintenance for 25 years, looking after the upkeep of Fiddington Manor, which was built back in 1535 and where Gullivers' offices are based.

A master cabinet maker and carpenter prior to joining the company, Nick headed up the boat building achievements at Shakespeare in Tewkesbury, one of the country’s major builders of speedboats in the 1960s and 70s.

Said Nick Nixon: “It has been a great pleasure being responsible for the maintenance of the Manor and as most carpenter’s know, you can never fully retire and I intend to carry on with perhaps a little bit cabinet making.”

John Hall, Chairman of Gullivers added: “It has been a great pleasure having such a skilled artisan like Nick, who has been able to turn his hand to any problems and get it sorted, and we wish him well in retirement.”
