Martin Johnson lifts the Rugby World Cup in 2003

07 Jan 2010 - After a busy (and snowy) first week of 2010, we look back over the noughties at just some of Gullivers’ many highlights of the decade.

  • Gullivers down under for the British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia 2001 – our Famous Big Pubs, Lions’ 29-13 win in the first Test in Brisbane, Ian McGeechan joining us on tour and much more.

  • England winning the Rugby World Cup 2003 with Jonny Wilkinson’s breathtaking drop goal against Australia in Sydney. We took 3,000 rugby supporters to Australia for this thrilling Rugby World Cup.

  • Travelling to the one of the most passionate rugby country's in the world for the British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand 2005. A massive 3,500 Lions supporters toured to the Land of the Long White with Gullivers, with 2,000 touring the country on our chartered ship.

  • Ashes 2006/07 – after regaining the Ashes in 2005 – England’s support was tremendous and 1,000 cricket supporters travelled with us to the Land of Plenty.

  • ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 - 16 teams, 67 matches, 54 days and nine countries separated by water. Gullivers handled the travel, accommodation and tickets for all the teams, officials, media and sponsors, as well as 10,000 supporters from around the world.

  • Underdogs England beating Australia in the Rugby World Cup 2007 quarter final – late summer sunshine in Marseille and celebrations a plenty on board our floating hotel, Club Med 2. England just missed out on becoming Rugby World Cup champions for the second time but we were there again for their final against South Africa in Paris.

  • Organising the Grande Finale Dinner for the Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival 2008 at Edinburgh’s Highland Hall for the 3,000 participants and their supporters – the largest sit down dinner to be held in Scotland.

  • Witnessing one of the hardest fought Lions Series of all time on the British & Irish Lions Tour to South Africa 2009, ending in a 3rd Test win for the Lions in Johannesburg, with Gullivers’ 2,000 Lions supporters travelling to Ellis Park in a massive 42 coach, police escorted convoy from our Big Pub in Soweto.

  • Seeing around 20,000 mini and junior rugby players go through the ranks of our festivals and tournaments during the noughties, including budding young rugby stars Leigh Halfpenny and Jordan Crane.
