Edinburgh to Host Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival 2011
17 Aug 2009 -
Event Scotland has confirmed that Edinburgh will host the Air New Zealand Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival 2011, the biennial event for over 35 male and female hockey players for which Gullivers Sports Travel is the official ground handler. The announcement was made on 17 August by super veteran and president of Scotland’s LX Hockey Team, George Black and Scottish Olympic field hockey player, Graham Moodie.
The Golden Oldies Hockey Festival will see hockey enthusiasts come together in Edinburgh from around the world, with Gullivers handling all the ground operations for the event, including organising the accommodation, transportation and social functions for the expected 1,000 participants and supporters.
Gullivers’ involvement in Golden Oldies Festivals dates back to 1985 and since then has handled the ground operations for a total of 12 hockey, rugby and cricket Golden Oldies Festivals, the most recent being last year’s Rugby Festival in Edinburgh, participated by 3,200 rugby veterans.
Gullivers’ Director David Hall said: “After the huge success of the Golden Oldies Rugby Festival in 2008, Gullivers is delighted to be working with Air New Zealand in this fantastic city once again. With hockey players expected from all the corners of the world, there’s plenty of cultural delights in Edinburgh to keep them entertained, which will be reflected in our social functions and keeping with the Golden Oldies Festivals ethos of ‘Fun, Friendship and Fraternity’ – we look forward to getting the preparations underway.”
