Sports Tours to South Africa
Warmly known as the Rainbow Nation, South Africa is one of the most diverse and captivating countries in the world and one of Gullivers' most popular sports tour destinations.
South Africa is the perfect sports tour destination. The combination of the time difference (+1/2 hours GMT – no jet lag!), no language barrier, cost of living and excellent sporting facilities make it the ideal touring destination.
Sport is an integral part of the culture and opposition is competitive in most sports, particularly cricket and rugby. Tourists are always thrilled by the level of local support for matches during their South Africa sports tour.
Cricket tours to South Africa can be arranged from October to March. The fields then turn to rugby pitches and rugby dominates the sporting calendar from April through to September. Both hockey and netball are winter sports and, like rugby, are played between April and September. If you are looking for a combined sports tour, South Africa is definitely for you!
With FIFA World Cup 2010 leaving a lasting football legacy in South Africa, football tours here have never been so popular with UK schools and clubs.
The beauty of South Africa is the diversity of the standard on offer, which helps us ensure your fixtures are evenly contested at all age groups. Sport, in South African schools, is of massive importance and it is not uncommon for some schools to have around five or six teams per age group out on the field each week.
Away from the sport, South Africa has everything to offer a touring group; from exploring the prison on Robben Island to learn about the incarceration of Nelson Mandela, to the breathtaking views from the top of Table Mountain. For the more active, there are surfing lessons, waterparks and coaching clinics in a township. And, no trip is complete without a safari where you can experience the real Africa, and try to spot the 'Big Five' and other wildlife.
The opportunities are endless!
